Reps query FERMA over lopsided appointment

The House of Representatives committee on Federal Character, has querried Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) over alleged lopsided appointment by the agency.
Chairman of the House committee on Federal Character, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase CON, issued the querry when the Managing Director of FERMA, Engr. Chukwu Emeka Agbasi appeared before the committee.
Wase said the action is clear violation of section 14 sub section 3 of the 1999 constitution as amended, which clearly stipulated that every agency of the federal government must give equal appointment opportunities to each state of the federation.
A summary submitted before the committee indicated that South West has the highest number of staff with 347 staffs, followed by South-South with 320 while Northeast has the lowest number of 170 staffs only.
Managing Director of FERMA, Engr. Chukwu Emeka Agbasi, appealed for more time, stressing that the exercise is a continuous process and promised to ensure equity for all.
Wase however demanded that the agency should immediately submit to it list of all staff employed recently before the next scheduled sitting to serve as a guide for the committee.
The Chairman’s decision was unanimously adopted by all the members of the committee.
