Rivers crisis: Dele Farotimi reacts to Rivers Assembly drama

Human rights lawyer and political commentator, Dele Farotimi, has weighed in on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara was prevented from entering the House of Assembly complex to present the 2025 budget.
In a post on X, Farotimi left no room for sympathy, calling out both Fubara and his political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
“He no go beta for anybody wey beg you say make you no impeach am, and he no go beta for you, if you no make sure say dem impeach am. Amen ,” Farotimi wrote, in what many interpreted as a direct attack on Fubara amid the impeachment threats hovering over his administration.
His statement gained traction after Wike, in a media chat, dismissed concerns over a possible impeachment, insisting that “nothing will happen” if Fubara is removed. The ongoing crisis has deepened the rift between the governor and his political benefactor, with their loyalists engaging in a fierce battle for control of the state.
However, Farotimi’s stance sparked reactions from netizens, with one questioning his position: “Oga Dele, it seems you’re condoning betrayal simply because of your dislike for Wike; that’s not a morally defensible stance.”
Responding, Farotimi clarified his position, taking an even harsher jab at both Fubara and Wike:
“Wiked stole the election for Simpleton. Fubara is the beneficiary of a stolen gubernatorial election, the selected mannequin of a man who stole a presidential election. Why would I care to take sides in a quarrel amongst thieves?”
His blunt remark has further fueled online debates, with some agreeing that Fubara is reaping the consequences of his political alignment, while others argue that the governor deserves a fair chance to govern.
As of the time of this report, neither Fubara nor Wike has responded to Farotimi’s scathing remarks.
