Antonio Rudiger has jetted his recovery from knee surgery and will be available for Xabi Alonso in Real Madrid’s Club World Cup semi-final against Pachuca, offering a timely boost to the Spanish side.

Antonio Rudiger has surprised Real Madrid’s coaching staff by shortening his expected recovery time following knee surgery. The German defender will be available for Xabi Alonso in Los Blancos’ second Club World Cup match against Pachuca.

Rudiger had been suffering from intense pain in his knee for eight months, particularly evident during the Copa del Rey final. During extra time of that match, the pain became overwhelming and the player had to be substituted.

Despite the difficulties, Rudiger did not stop training and competing, using painkillers before each session in order to be able to perform at his best. On 29 April, he underwent surgery, which was initially expected to keep him sidelined for a longer period of time.

However, his recovery has been remarkable and he is now ready to make his comeback. Toni is very confident that he can be useful in the Club World Cup,” club sources said. His return is very positive news for a team that has been plagued by injuries in defence.
