Shock as NAFDAC uncovers expired condoms repackaged for sale

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a disturbing case of expired condoms being repackaged and sold at Idumota Market in Lagos.

During an ongoing enforcement operation, NAFDAC officials discovered that unscrupulous dealers had rebranded expired condoms donated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) program. The condoms, which originally expired in 2022, were repackaged under the Kiss brand, with their expiration dates fraudulently extended to 2027.

In a video shared on, an agency official displayed the confiscated products, warning the public that the so-called Kiss condoms were actually counterfeit versions of expired, repackaged USAID condoms.

“This is a serious public health risk,” the NAFDAC official stated, urging consumers to remain vigilant and only purchase products from trusted and approved sources.

The discovery has raised concerns over the safety of products circulating in open markets, with NAFDAC vowing to intensify its crackdown on counterfeit and expired goods.
