Van Dijk extends contract with Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk has decided to extend his contract with Liverpool until 2027.
The defender who has rejected multiple offers from other clubs and reaffirming his commitment to the Reds’ long-term project.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk will sign a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until June 2027.
According to Florian Plettenberg the Dutch centre-back, who will turn 34, has turned down offers from rival clubs to remain with the Reds.
According to The Athletic, the final details are being discussed, but the deal is expected to be confirmed in the coming days. Van Dijk’s decision is a major boost for Liverpool, who are on course to win their second league title in three years under Arne Slot in his first season in charge.
Following the 3-2 defeat to Fulham last weekend, Van Dijk hinted that negotiations had progressed: “There is progress, yes… These are internal discussions, and we’ll see.” Despite the defeat, the defender praised the club’s supporters and expressed his love for Liverpool and its fans.
It is said that Slot was instrumental in persuading Van Dijk to stay. Journalist Fabrizio Romano said the manager’s relationship with the players was absolutely crucial in securing the deal. With Trent Alexander-Arnold on the verge of joining Real Madrid, Van Dijk’s presence will be vital in Liverpool’s squad this summer.
