VIDEO: Police chase, leave man unconscious over ‘yahoo’ allegations

A man is currently fighting for his life at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) after a harrowing police chase that led to him falling into a canal near Federal Bus Stop in the Ipaja-Ayobo area of Lagos.
According to an eyewitness who shared the incident on social media, the man, whose identity was not disclosed, was pursued by police officers in plain clothes early Tuesday morning. The officers reportedly stopped him while he was on a commercial motorcycle. The rider sped off, leaving the man to face the officers alone.
The police allegedly searched the man, accusing him of being a “Yahoo boy” due to his tattoos. Despite his attempts to deny the accusations, the officers reportedly cocked their guns, threatening to shoot him. In a bid to escape, the man fled, prompting the officers to chase him. The pursuit ended tragically when he fell into a canal.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said that while the man lay unconscious in the canal, the officers picked up his slippers and money, which had fallen during the chase, and quickly left as onlookers began to shout in protest.
The victim was rushed to LASUTH, where he is currently unconscious, diagnosed with a severe head injury, and on oxygen support.

The fact that they were not in uniform and allegedly resorted to force based on assumptions has raised concerns about police misconduct in the area.
As of the time of this report, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The public awaits further details as pressure mounts for accountability and justice.
