Ahead of 2027 general elections, political allies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have started mounting pressure on former governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-rufai, to reconsider his position and work for the re-election of the President.
The former governor early in the week at the must concluded National Conference on strengthening democracy in Nigeria openly attached the President and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While some APC chieftains openly attacked El-rufai, it was gathered that some others were worry about the development considering the former governor’s contributions to Tinubu’s emergence and his strength in the North.
Writing on his Facebook page, one of Tinubu’s long time ally, Joe Igbokwe said: “HE Mallam El Rufai is my friend . He is a very courageous and very intelligent person. He has to remain in APC.”
In another post, the former APC spokesman said: “I pray fervently that the friendship, the cordial relationship, the understanding, the brotherhood, the bridges, the love, the respect, the resolve, the destination, the target , the common cause etc should remain intact. WE ARE APC.”
Another source who pleaded to be anonymous told Discoverer Nigeria that the presidency is considering a strong delegation of strong politicians and elder statement to broker peace between El-rufai and the president.
The source said: “Honestly what is happening is not in our favour because El-rufai is not a small politician in the North. though some sycophants around the president will not tell him the truth but he (President) must do everything possible to quickly realign with El-rufai and others.
“Someone has suggested a delegation should be sent to appeal to on behalf of the president but let’s see how the proposal will work,” he concluded.
