4 Obaseki’s aides resign days to governorship election

Four Senior Special Assistants to Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki have resigned from their positions and left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just 12 days before the state’s governorship election.

The aides—Osayande Emenya, Henry Osaheni Ukato, Efosa Edo-Osagie, and Timothy Edokpolor—formally submitted their resignation letters on September 4 and 6, 2024. Their letters were addressed to the party’s local government and ward chairmen.

The resignations come from key wards in the Oredo and Ikpoba Okha local government areas, and the aides highlighted non-payment of their salaries as the main reason for stepping down. In their letters, they also voiced concerns over the marginalisation of long-standing PDP members, stating that the principles of “equity, fairness, and justice” were no longer being upheld within the party.

“We are resigning from the party based on the principles of equity, fairness, and justice, which are no longer upheld at the ward levels, coupled with the marginalisation of the original PDP members who have sustained the party,” the resigning aides said.

However, the aides did not reveal their future political affiliations, leaving room for speculation as the election date approaches.
