40 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in Akwa Ibom

Forty internet fraudsters have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state.
The arrest was made in the early hours of Thursday, May 30 and items recovered include one Toyota SUV XLE, nine laptop computers, 64 smartphones, one internet router, and a smartwatch.
This was announced in a post via its X handle on Friday, May 31.
It reads: “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo zonal command on Thursday, May 30, 2024, arrested 40 suspected internet fraudsters in early morning sting operations at two different locations in the state.
“Twenty-one of the all-male suspects were arrested in Eket, while the remaining 19 were picked up in Ikot Ekpene.
“Items recovered from the suspects upon arrest include one Toyota SUV XLE, nine laptop computers, 64 smartphones, one internet router, and a smartwatch.
“They will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
