55 Babcock graduates inducted into Medical Lab Council

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, on Monday, formally inducted 55 graduates from Babcock University’s Medical Laboratory Science program, located in Ilishan Remo, Ogun State.

The council urged the new inductees to uphold the highest standards of the profession and make their alma mater proud by being exemplary ambassadors.

On Wednesday, Professor Ademola Tayo, Vice-Chancellor of the university, made a stirring call to the inductees during the induction ceremony, which took place at the university’s 600-seater auditorium.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that their oath went beyond a mere promise to uphold professional standards; it was a solemn commitment to relentlessly pursue excellence, integrity, and compassion in every endeavor, ultimately contributing to a better world for all humanity.

He said, “As you take your oath, remember that this is not just a promise to uphold the standards of your profession but also a commitment to continually strive for excellence, integrity and compassion in all your actions.

“You must also do your best to remain worthy ambassadors of your highly cherished profession and this university that has nurtured you all these years to be the very best in life.”

In his keynote address, Prof. Festus Olajubu of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, who spoke on “Empowering Personal, Public and Global Health through Diagnostic Medicine,” stressed the critical role of medical laboratory scientists in healthcare delivery and the importance of diagnostic medicine in shaping public and global health outcomes.

Olajubu reminded the inductees of the need to uphold the ethics of the profession as well as set achievable goals for a rewarding career.

“Get exposure through conference attendance and training workshops and set achievable goals for yourself, be respectful and yet dignify your profession,” he said.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the MLSC, Dr Tosan Erhabor, who administered the oath to the inductees, urged them to stick to the ethics of the profession and always respect the confidentiality of their patients.

Professor Dora Akinboye, Dean of the School of Public and Allied Health, and Dr. Esther Adejumo, Head of the Medical Laboratory Science Department, joined in offering their warmest congratulations and best wishes to the graduates as they embarked on their future careers.

Temitope Ajayi, the department’s top-performing student, was honored with special recognition and presented with gifts during the ceremony, celebrating her outstanding academic achievement.
