NIMC to boost security protocols for agents

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said that it will conduct thorough security screenings for all licensed verification agents, front-end partners, and Diaspora partners to ensure the safeguarding of citizens’ personal data and prevent identity fraud.
Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), stated in a statement released on Saturday that the commission is dedicated to delivering secure identity services and adhering to international standards in identity management.
The vetting process is designed to ensure that all agents and partners comply with regulatory requirements, mitigate insider threats, and prevent unauthorised access to the National Identity Database.
The Commission has issued a stern warning that any partner found to be non-compliant with the newly implemented security protocols will face appropriate sanctions, as stipulated in the relevant regulations and national laws.
The agency has announced that it has empowered law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against individuals engaged in online phishing scams aimed at compromising citizens’ personal data.
