One feared dead as explosion rocks Port Harcourt

An explosion has rocked Port Harcourt on Tuesday morning.
This incident occurred when protester attempted to set off an explosive device outside Hotel Presidential at around 9:45 am which later resulted to chaotic scene.
Sources within the scene described the scene as chaotic, with security personnel quickly responding to the incident and promptly removing the victim’s body from the area.
One eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, also noted that the protesters’ march had caused substantial traffic congestion along their route.
The tragic incident occurred against a backdrop of political tension, as a solidarity rally was being held in support of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The event, led by prominent figures including House of Representatives Minority Leader Ogundu Chinda, Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, and former Council Chairman George Ariolu, drew together leaders from various wards in Obio/Akpor. The protesters marched to advocate for the continued deployment of police personnel in the councils to maintain law and order, amidst the unfolding political unrest.
The solidarity march, which traversed Ikwerre road, contributed to further gridlock in the area. Ariolu emphasized the importance of governance by law and urged adherence to the rule of law to uphold peace and order in Rivers State.
As political tensions continued to simmer, a group of IPO community women added to the unrest by staging a protest at the Port Harcourt airport, causing disruptions and stranding passengers. Nevertheless, amidst the chaos, Ariolu persisted in his appeal for calm, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law and advocating for peaceful, lawful governance.
Amidst the dual challenges of political unrest and tragic incidents in Port Harcourt, the pursuit of peace and stability has become more crucial than ever, highlighting the need for collective action to tackle the root causes of the crisis and bring tranquility back to the region.
