Benue postpones LG election to Nov 16

The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission has rescheduled the local government election, previously set for July 6, to November 16, 2024.
John Chen, the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, made this announcement while addressing journalists on Friday in Makurdi.
According to Chen, the decision to reschedule the election was due to unavoidable logistical challenges that required more time to be addressed.
Chen explained that the commission required additional time to adequately prepare and acquire essential election materials.
“We have commenced the process of rescheduling by developing a revised timetable that will accommodate all critical activities and allow sufficient time for adequate preparation.
“Today serves as the date for the issuance of the election notice in accordance with the relevant Statutes, particularly Sections 103 (3) and 150 of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, and detailed guidelines will be released in due course in accordance with these laws,” he said.
The Chairman urged all political parties, candidates, and key stakeholders to collaborate with the commission, ensuring a smooth and successful electoral process that is transparent, credible, and free from interference.
