BASIEC shifts Bauchi LG elections

Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has shifted further the date for the planned local government chairmen and councilors elections.
It would be recalled that Bauchi State conducted local government elections in October, 2020 where the rulling party in the state, PDP, won all chairmen and councilors seats.
Since then, all the 20 local government chairmen and deputies in Bauchi were being appointed as caretaking committee chairmen at different intervals. Currently, all the crop of chairmen and deputies were appointed by Governor Bala Mohammed of the state.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ahmed Makaman in a statement made available to Journalists in Bauchi on Friday said the plan to hold the elections for August 10 this year could not be sustained due some reasons, which he did not specified.
According to him, the the elections were adjusted to take place August 17.
Makama called on political parties and other stakeholders to note the new adjustment and tidy internal mechanisms for the new date. END
