Ondo South should produce next gov – APC aspirant

Jimi Odimayo, a governorship aspirant under the umbrella of All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that the next Ondo State governor should come from the southern part of the state.
Odimayo, who is a member of the House of Representatives, warned the party against fielding the wrong candidate, ahead of the April 20 APC governorship primary.
Incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Odimayo, including sixteen aspirants, will be knocking it out at the April 20 governorship primary.
Odimayo, who represents the Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, told journalists in Akure on Thursday, that the APC would brighten its winning chances by picking an aspirant from Ondo South.
Constitutionally, Aiyedatiwa is the best option for the APC because he will only be able to do one term, According to him.
“If you attempt to bring anybody that is short of eight years we would struggle in the next election. If you pick anybody who is not up to the task, especially someone who would not do eight years, people would not support them. Our leaders should not be sentimental because people are watching, Odimayo said.
“We, the southerners ( from Ondo South), we will ensure that the APC doesn’t produce anybody that would be questionable or challenged by the opposition party. We are going to address our challenges as a party, we are not going to make a mistake. The APC is the predominant party in Ondo State.’’
“Basically, it is the turn of the Ondo South, and the party would not play with it; we want the party to utilise this opportunity, we have eight years, we will not tolerate anything less than eight years for the South. So, we should be very careful not to go into a trap with our enemies.”
