Nigerian Army detains alleged kidnapping informant

The Nigerian Army has taken into custody a woman named Grace Markus, accused of serving as an informant for kidnappers operating in Taraba and Benue states.
Markus is suspected of spying for kidnappers and facilitating the recent abduction of Malam Saidu in Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area.
According to a statement by Captain Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Markus was arrested on September 6, 2024, during an intelligence-led operation in Taraba State’s Wukari Local Government Area. The operation was conducted in response to Saidu’s abduction from his residence in Vesee community.
Markus is also alleged to be the girlfriend of a notorious kidnapper known as Chen, who has been terrorizing communities along the Taraba-Benue border. The Army has confirmed that Markus is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to determine the extent of her involvement in various criminal activities.
The arrest of Grace Markus marks a significant breakthrough in the Army’s efforts to combat kidnapping and criminality in the region. As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge about Markus’ role in facilitating kidnappings and her connections to notorious criminal elements.
