VIDEO: Olumide Akpata rejects working with new Edo government

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s candidate in the recently concluded Edo State gubernatorial election, has categorically ruled out the possibility of working with the newly elected administration, stressing that he will not compromise his integrity or engage in what he described as “political harlotry.”

During an interview on Arise TV, the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association expressed his dissatisfaction with the election results but made it clear that his values would not allow him to join forces with the new government. Akpata emphasized that despite any offers that may come his way, he remains dedicated to upholding his principles.

“If I am called upon, I will not work with the new government,” Akpata stated firmly. “I will not participate in political harlotry. My commitment is to the people and to my values, not to political convenience.”

In addition to distancing himself from the new administration, Akpata revealed that his campaign team is reviewing the election results with their legal team. He indicated that they may pursue legal action if irregularities are found, keeping the door open for a possible challenge to the election outcome.

“We have sent out results to our lawyers and will reserve our right to challenge the elections if necessary,” Akpata said, signaling his intent to fight any perceived injustice.

Thediscovererng.com reports that the Edo State election saw Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared the winner, with Akpata finishing third behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate. Throughout the campaign, Akpata had voiced concerns about electoral malpractice, including vote-buying and other alleged irregularities.
