Raypower: The return of Bodunrin to political platform, by Bino Julius Wayambi

The recent return of veteran journalist Adebayo Bodunrin to Political Platform on RayPower FM has brought back the missing historical perspective to analysis on national issues.
It’s always interesting when you listen to well grounded analysts who have a mastery of the art of making a comparison between our current state of affairs as a nation and what obtained in the previous decades especially the 60s, 70s and 80s in their analysis of national issues. As a longtime regular listener of Political Platform I must admit that the program attained its peak in terms of quality of analysis and historical flavour from around 2008 when my honeymoon with the 30 minutes radio program began. Back then, the program used to feature Augustine Okhiria Agbonsuremi, Adebayo Bodunrin, Ehiedu Charles Aniagu, Amaechi Anakwue, Mustapha Mohammed, and Gbenga Aruleba who occasionally joined the crew. Subsequently, there was Uju Ejeye and much later Osamor Ijeoma Evelyn.
The discussions then were always loaded with historical facts and brilliant perspectives to national issues because of the experienced journalists in the studio.
And that’s what stood Daar Communications apart –an intimidating assemblage of seasoned journalists who have a rich history of Nigeria’s political evolution. At its peak, the morning political talkshow was very entertaining as it was enlightening.
After Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa of Delta State snatched Ehiedu and later Okhiria left Daar Communications, while Bodurin, Mustapha and Uju stopped featuring on Political Platform, leaving Amaechi as the last man standing with some new faces like Sola Jaiyesimi, Abulu, etc., you could notice that Political Platform was no longer at its peak in terms of sound analysis, although the new crew was doing its very best and Dr. Amaechi was as brilliant as ever while another addition Terverr Tyav was bringing more depth and quality to the discussions.
But then, not minding the exit of the old guards, Political Platform still remains the favourite of its ardent listeners till today.
Lately, the return of Bodurin’s historical memory, the addition of Kunle Adewale, the eloquence of Sola and of course the passionate, thought-provoking analysis of the last man standing in the person of political economist Dr. Amaechi are bringing the usual depth and enlightenment to the talkshow.
So, here’s a thumbs up to the Political Platform crew.
