Ex-NIWA boss, Moghalu condemns senseless killing of 11 men in Anambra

The immediate past Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority NIWA and Chieftain of Labour Party, Chief Dr George Moghalu has strongly condemned the murder of over 11 able bodied young men at Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday by gunmen during the community’s annual Onwa Asaa festival.
Reacting to the incident in a statement to commiserate with the victims, Dr. George Moghalu said: “I am deeply disturbed by the murder of these young men by gunmen who seem to be on loose and bent on creating chaos and disorder in our dear State, Anambra.
This heinous act of violence, where innocent lives are being brutally snatched away, and communities thrown into chaos, is a direct affront to the values of peace and unity that we hold dear.
“This persistent attack on innocent people in our various communities is a matter of grave concern because security is one of the cardinal objectives of any serious government.”
Speaking on the state government’s inability and lackluster posture to tackle insecurity in the State, the former NIWA boss said: “It is very important to call on the state government under the leadership Prof. Charles Solodo to wake up to their responsibility and to make sure that the State does not slide into a theatre of terrorism and extreme violence.”
While extending his condolences to the families of the deceased young men, Chief Dr George Moghalu prays for the repose of their souls.
