12-year-old emerges LG chairman

A 12-year-old student, Aladetan Opeyemi, has been inaugurated as a one-day chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area in Oyo State.
Opeyemi, a student at Oyo State Comprehensive Model College, assumed the role alongside three other students: Abdulrasaq Oladokun (12 years old) as Vice Chairman, Aluko Israel (13 years old) as Secretary, and Tijani Teslim (13 years old) as Leader of the House.
The students earned their positions by excelling in a school-based competition organised within the local government area. Opeyemi emerged as the first runner-up in the contest.
The newly appointed “officials” were sworn in at the local government secretariat and later inspected a newly completed Grade A Customary Court project in the area on Wednesday.
Speaking on the initiative, the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Akeem Olatunji, explained that the programme aimed to promote academic excellence and encourage students to strive for success.
“This is part of our efforts to support His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and to demonstrate that there are better rewards for academic excellence than the celebration of nudity on television and social media,” Olatunji stated.
He pledged to sustain the programme throughout his tenure and expressed hope that future administrations would continue it.
