PDP postpones NEC meeting, gives reason

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced another postponement of its 99th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, initially scheduled for November 28, 2024.
This decision marks the fourth rescheduling of the pivotal gathering, further underscoring the challenges within the party.
In a statement issued by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party revealed that the latest postponement was due to the funeral arrangements of Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State and wife of Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno. The funeral is slated to take place from November 27 to 29, 2024.
The statement read:
“During its meeting on Wednesday, the National Working Committee (NWC) noted the funeral ceremony of Mrs. Eno coincides with the scheduled activities for the NEC meeting. Recognizing the importance of party leaders paying their respects, the NWC decided to defer the meeting to a date that will be announced in due course.”
The National Secretary apologized for the inconvenience caused to NEC members, emphasizing the importance of solidarity during the time of grief.
This latest development follows several earlier postponements, with the meeting originally planned for August, later moved to September, then October 2, and most recently November 28.
As the PDP grapples with internal challenges, the continuous postponement raises questions about its organizational structure and readiness for key party decisions. Party stakeholders now await the announcement of a new date amid concerns over the implications for the party’s unity and direction.
