Court dismisses Bobrisky’s N200 million suit against EFCC

The Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights suit filed by controversial socialite and cross-dresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky had filed the suit alleging that the EFCC infringed on his fundamental rights during his arrest in April 2024 for alleged Naira abuse. In the suit, he sought N200 million in damages and an injunction preventing further harassment, arrest, or detention by the EFCC.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims lacked credible evidence to substantiate his allegations against the Commission.
In his ruling, the judge stated:
“Having evaluated the evidence presented by the applicant, it is clear that no credible proof exists to justify the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought.”
Justice Owoeye further noted that Bobrisky’s accusations of rights violations against the EFCC and the National Assembly were baseless, adding, “The claims lack merit and are hereby dismissed.” The court also declined to grant any monetary damages.
Bobrisky’s legal troubles began on April 4, 2024, when he was arrested by the EFCC for alleged currency abuse. This arrest led to his subsequent conviction and six-month sentence handed down by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, on April 12, 2024.
This ruling marks another legal defeat for Bobrisky, who had sought to clear his name and secure compensation for what he alleged were infringements on his rights. Neither Bobrisky nor his legal team has issued a statement in response to the court’s decision.
