Kenyan authorities have apprehended a 29-year-old man, John Kiama Wambua, after discovering the dismembered remains of his teenage wife, Joy Fridah Munani, inside a backpack during a routine patrol in Huruma, east of Nairobi.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers stopped Wambua just before dawn on suspicion of illegal activity. Upon searching his bag, they made the gruesome discovery of the mutilated body parts.
Unfazed by the horrific find, Wambua reportedly remained “unperturbed” as police interrogated him. He later confessed to killing Munani, 19, and led investigators to his home, where additional body parts, a blood-stained knife, and soiled clothes were hidden beneath a bed.
The DCI condemned the crime as “heinous” and assured that Wambua would be charged with murder. Authorities are continuing investigations to piece together the motive behind the brutal killing, which has sent shockwaves through the local community.
