Adeyanju hails Fubara’s leadership, calls for prioritization of Rivers people

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his commitment to the rule of law, following his decision to conduct fresh local government elections in compliance with a recent Supreme Court ruling.
In a public statement, Adeyanju praised Fubara’s directive to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to organize new elections and his instruction for Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to oversee council affairs temporarily. He described these actions as a demonstration of the governor’s dedication to constitutional order and democratic governance.
Adeyanju also urged Fubara to remain focused on the welfare of Rivers residents despite political distractions. He specifically warned against the influence of former Governor Nyesom Wike, whom he accused of attempting to destabilize the state. He called on Fubara to use his full authority to curtail Wike’s political influence, insisting that Rivers State should not be treated as anyone’s personal empire.
“The people of Rivers State must come first, and the governor must not give Wike a breathing space,” Adeyanju stated.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Adeyanju expressed confidence that Fubara would emerge stronger and more determined. He urged the governor to remain steadfast, assuring him of public support in his mission to serve the people of Rivers State.
