Explosion rocks Mararaba-Nyanya bypass in Abuja

Panic gripped commuters and residents along the busy Mararaba-Nyanya bypass in Abuja on Monday, May 26, 2025, following a sudden explosion that occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stating that officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress call.
According to the police, the affected area was swiftly cordoned off to protect the public and allow for an initial forensic analysis. One male victim was rescued from the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. His identity and condition remain undisclosed.
A full-scale investigation is now underway to determine the cause and nature of the explosion. The police said the forensic analysis would provide key insights into what led to the incident and whether foul play is involved.
“The FCT Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear, as there is currently no cause for alarm,” the statement read.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, persons, or objects to the nearest police station. The police also shared emergency lines—08032003913, 08028940883, and 07057337653—for swift public communication.
