Gwo Geo Gwo N Gwo’ crooner, gentleman Mike Ejeagha, is dead

Legendary Nigerian highlife and folklore musician, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha, has passed away at the age of 95, marking the end of an era in traditional Igbo music.
Ejeagha, known for his rich storytelling and deep-rooted proverbs embedded in music, died after decades of shaping the Nigerian music landscape with his timeless sound. Until his death, he remained one of the most revered figures in the highlife genre, especially among lovers of indigenous music.
The late icon experienced a resurgence in popularity in 2024 after popular comedian and skit maker, Brain Jotter, featured his iconic track Gwo Geo Gwo N Gwo in one of his viral comedy skits. The skit reignited interest in Ejeagha’s unique musical style among a new generation, sparking nostalgia and admiration across social media platforms.
Gentleman Mike Ejeagha was more than just a musician; he was a cultural archivist. His songs were often infused with moral lessons, traditional wisdom, and clever wordplay—all delivered in his signature calm and storytelling tone. For decades, his music served as a vehicle for preserving Igbo language, culture, and philosophy.
