Portugal captured their second UEFA Nations League trophy after defeating Spain in a dramatic final that was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout.

Spain struck first in Rotterdam, with Zubimendi opening the scoring in the 21st minute to give La Roja an early advantage. Portugal responded swiftly, as Nuno Mendes equalised just four minutes later with a powerful drive from the edge of the box.

The match continued at a frenetic pace, and Oyarzabal, assisted by Pedri, restored Spain’s lead shortly before half-time. Early in the second half, Bruno Fernandes thought he had levelled the scores, only for his goal to be ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Cristiano Ronaldo brought Portugal back into the contest in the 59th minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the area following a deflected cross from Mendes. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was forced off with an apparent injury in the 86th minute, making way for Gonçalo Ramos.

With the score locked at 2-2 after ninety minutes, extra time was required to separate the two sides. Portugal dominated the first period of extra time, with Mendes and Leão creating several dangerous opportunities.

Spain regained control in the latter stages, dictating possession but failing to break down the Portuguese defence. The final was ultimately decided by penalties, where both teams converted their first three spot-kicks.

Alvaro Morata’s miss in the fourth round proved decisive, handing Portugal the initiative. Ruben Neves calmly converted the final penalty, sealing a memorable victory and a second Nations League title for Portugal.
