Correctional service denies existence of hotel – Spokesman

Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), has denied existence of hotel in it’s establishment.
While refuting the claim, NCS cautioned the public against misinformation.
According to Abubakar Umar, the Service Spokesman and Assistant Controller, “A malicious report circulating in certain media outlets falsely suggests that the Nigerian Correctional Service recently constructed a lavish hotel. Umar emphasized that this report is not only deceptive but also aims to mislead the public.
“He clarified that the mentioned hotel was constructed in 2021 and is solely owned by the Correctional Cooperative Society (COCOS), a cooperative organization for all Service personnel formed in 1996. The COCOS operates a Microfinance Bank, offering financial support to current and retired personnel through soft loans and other services, aiming to enhance their welfare”.
Furthermore, “Umar highlighted that the Cooperative Society functions as a safety net for retired and deceased personnel, ensuring they receive their rightful benefits. The Cooperative Society has also acquired housing estates, facilitating serving and retired personnel to own homes conveniently”.
The hotel in question has been operational since its establishment in 2021, situated along Bill Clinton Drive Airport Road, Abuja. It is funded and managed by COCOS as a corporate entity. The hotel has provided employment opportunities for numerous youths and received accolades from various dignitaries.
Umar emphasized that the Controller General of Corrections (CGC) urges the public to disregard the false report, as it aims to create confusion. He encourages patronage of the hotel, emphasizing its excellent services and competitive prices. Additionally, news reporters are advised to verify information from the NCoS Public Relations Officer or official channels before publication.
