Breaking: Sanusi returns as Emir of Kano

The former Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido, has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano.

He returned after the Kano State House of Assembly abolished a 2019 law creating four additional Emirate Councils, bringing the number of First Class Emirs in the State to five.

The State House of Assembly dismantled the five Emirate Councils and dethroned the current Emirs enthroned by the controversial 2019 law.

Though Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has not been officially pronounced as Emir, according to credible inside sources, he is expected to be in Kano by Friday.

“So certainly with the passage of the Bill, Sanusi automatically stands reinstated. No need for confirmation, the thing is to wait for the Governor to assent to it,” a source told Leadership.

Recall that the immediate past administration of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje in May 2019, created Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya emirates in addition to the Kano Emirate.

Before creation of the Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya emirates in addition to the Kano Emirate, the Emir of Kano was the only first-class Emir in the State.

The Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, who sponsored the Amendment Bill, shortly after Thursday’s session, revealed told journalists that, “the bill has been sent to the governor for assent, now there is no longer an active Emir in Kano in all the five Emirates.

“The law now provides the governor to call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new king.”
