Again! 2 girls trafficked for prostitution rescued in Ghana

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has announced that two more girls trafficked for prostitution in Ghana have been rescued.
According to a statement on Tuesday by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NiDCOM’s director of media, public relations, and protocols, the girls were rescued on Monday by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) in Ghana.
The two girls, hailing from Edo and Lagos, recounted their experience, revealing they were trafficked under the pretense of working as salesgirls in supermarkets.
They were coerced into taking an “oath” that supposedly would drive them mad if they attempted to escape, and their captors also confiscated their phones and threatened to release their nude photos and videos.
NiDCOM’s CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated that the girls are now in safe custody and are providing valuable information to help track down the traffickers. She added that arrangements are being made for their return to Nigeria, where they will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the need for collective efforts to combat human trafficking. Earlier this month, videos of teenage girls, aged 15 to 18, lured into prostitution in Ghana went viral. Over 10 of these girls were repatriated to Nigeria last Friday, and the suspected trafficker has been arrested.
