Again! Death hits Nollywood industry

The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned Yoruba filmmaker, Shina Sanyaolu.
A prominent figure in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood, Sanyaolu’s passing was confirmed by the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr. Latin.
In a brief tribute shared on Instagram, Mr. Latin expressed his sadness, writing, “Sleep well uncle Shina Sanyaolu.”
Although the exact cause of Sanyaolu’s death remains unclear at the time of this report, tributes have continued to pour in from his colleagues and admirers across the entertainment industry.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko also took to social media to mourn Sanyaolu’s passing, describing him as a man whose kindness and support for the arts left a lasting impact on many lives. Kosoko shared fond memories of their friendship, particularly of Sanyaolu’s unwavering hospitality to Nigerian actors who traveled to the UK in the 1980s.
In his heartfelt tribute, Kosoko wrote, “Shina Sanyaolu was not just a remarkable man, he was a beacon of kindness and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love for the arts and his unwavering support for our industry were unmatched. For those of us who traveled to the UK in the 80s, he made it feel like home. Welcoming us with open arms, giving us a place to stay, and even taking time off from his busy life to drive us around.”
Kosoko continued, “Shina, your generosity knew no bounds and your spirit touched countless lives. You were truly a rare gem. The world feels emptier without you, but we take solace in knowing that your legacy lives on in the hearts you have touched.”
Shina Sanyaolu was a key figure in the production of notable Yoruba films such as The Honourable, Two Wives, and Omo Olosan. His contributions to the growth of the Yoruba film industry, both in Nigeria and abroad, will be remembered for years to come.
As the Nollywood community mourns the loss of a beloved colleague and friend, Sanyaolu’s impact on the industry and the lives of many will not be forgotten.
