Akeredolu’s wife calls for Akpabio’s impeachment amidst Natasha’s allegations

Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has called for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio following allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti.
In a statement shared on her handle, Mrs. Akeredolu also criticized the involvement of Unoma Akpabio, the Senate President’s wife, in the ongoing controversy.
“In more civilized societies, Akpabio would have already stepped down to clear his name and defend himself. Drafting his wife into the battle against Senator Natasha is highly deceptive an attempt to evade accountability while throwing his wife under the bus. That’s a misstep!” she stated.
The former Ondo First Lady also condemned attacks against Senator Natasha, arguing that the lawmaker should be applauded for speaking out.
She further criticized Akpabio’s decision to reassign Natasha’s seat in the Senate without informing her beforehand.
“Reassigning a senator’s seat without prior notice is unacceptable—it’s both disrespectful and a violation of one’s rights. Even if this had been done in the past, and men, for whatever reason, chose to remain silent, Natasha had the boldness to challenge it. And we took notice. A long-standing wrong can always be corrected—that’s the point!”
She also lashed out at critics who dismissed Natasha’s reaction as emotional, calling their arguments baseless.
“Some women are out here blaming Natasha, saying she’s being sentimental. What a meaningless argument! She expressed her frustration after ‘enduring a lot,’ according to her. That’s courage! That’s the kind of woman we need representing us in the National Assembly. Nigerian women have been suppressed and silenced for far too long.”
Highlighting the poor representation of women in Nigerian politics, she said:
“Isn’t it disgraceful that Nigeria has only four female senators out of 109? Natasha’s outburst has forced the country to take a closer look at what’s really happening in the National Assembly. Many Nigerians believe the legislature has become a ‘retirement home’ rather than a place for meaningful governance—it’s time for an overhaul!”
She concluded by rallying support for Senator Natasha, urging Nigerian women to stand behind her.
“Natasha is on the path to making history. Nigerian women should unite behind her. We need more women like her in the next political dispensation.”
