Following the emergence of new state working committee, leaders and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are set to recover the area for the party in the forthcoming area council elections.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), last week unveiled the timetable for the six area council elections coming up February 2026.
The move to this effect was reached following the amicable resolution of the internal crisis that fractionalised the party in the territory and the constitution of a new State Working Committee (SWC) for the party by the National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday.
The National Vice Chairman North, Hon. Muazu Bawa Rijau, on behalf of the party’s highest administrative organ – NWC inaugurated the new SWC and urged to commence their work immediately.
Addressing journalists after the inauguration, APC Zonal Secretary (North Central) Hon. Yakubu Mohamed Adamu , emphasized the importance of unity for the party as he introduced the new committee.
“I’m privileged to address you here today to announce the outcome of today’s gathering in the national secretariat with the newly reconciled executive of the party in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) being inaugurated on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) by the National Vice Chairman North, Hon. Muazu Bawa Rijau.
“He inaugurated them and asked them to go back to the FCT Secretariat and start working.There were a lot of issues but we are now united, the party is united. They will now go back to start on a clean slate to work hard to be able to deliver the party in the Federal Capital Territory.
“Thank God, this issue has been resolved. Today, we have an authentic list of the State Executive Committee and we have as well, the authentic list of the local government executive, as well as the ward excos in FCT.
“We are promising the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by the special grace of God that come 2027, we are going to deliver FCT for APC.
“We will deliver the six area councils and the 62 wards in the FCT. We are assuring you, we have no doubt, we are now united, and the unity will go down to the ward,” he declared.
The new FCT APC Chairman, Abdulmalik Usman also stressed the need for unity and resolve among party members in the territory.
Recanting the outcome of thier meeting, Usman said, “We are charged with the responsibility of this party to lead and also work hard to see the victory for the party in the next coming election in FCT.
On the next month council elections the Chairman said, “We hope we are going to do 6 over 6 and 62 over 62 by the grace of God. We are leaving now, and after this, we have a lot to do in the area councils and that of the wards to see that all hands are on deck to see to the victory of this party in the coming election.”
