Arsenal head coach resigns

Arsenal Football Club has officially confirmed the resignation of Jonas Eidevall from his position as Head Coach of the women’s first team, effective immediately.
Eidevall, who joined the club in June 2021 from FC Rosengard in Sweden, departs after a successful stint that saw him lead the team to significant achievements over three seasons.
During his time at Arsenal, Eidevall guided the women’s team to two FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup titles and oversaw their first UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final appearance in a decade during the 2022/23 campaign.
In the wake of his resignation, First Team Assistant Coach Renée Slegers has been appointed as Interim Head Coach while the club searches for Eidevall’s permanent replacement.
Arsenal Sporting Director Edu Gaspar expressed gratitude for Eidevall’s contributions, stating: “We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and the achievements he has brought since joining us in 2021. He has played a vital role in the growth and development of Arsenal Women, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
Gaspar also emphasized the club’s immediate focus on supporting Slegers as she leads the team in their upcoming fixtures, adding that the process of appointing a new Head Coach is already underway.
Clare Wheatley, Arsenal’s Director of Women’s Football, also paid tribute to Eidevall’s impact: “We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Jonas for his dedication to Arsenal over the past three years. He has delivered back-to-back trophies in the last two seasons, creating many memorable moments for the team. We wish him and his family health, happiness, and success in the future.”
Arsenal has assured fans that further announcements regarding the appointment of a new Head Coach will follow in due course. Meanwhile, the team will continue under the guidance of Renée Slegers, with two crucial matches lined up this week.
