Atletico Madrid consider keeping Barcelona’s Lenglet

After a successful loan, Atletico Madrid will try to keep Clement Lenglet at the club. Enrique Cerezo assured on ‘TV3’ that he hopes there will be “some agreement” with FC Barcelona.
One of the issues that Atletico Madrid will try to solve this summer is the continuity of Clement Lenglet.
The French centre-back has recovered his good level at the Metropolitano and Simeone is delighted with him, so the ‘Colchoneros’, as confirmed by Enrique Cerezo, will sit down with FC Barcelona to negotiate for him.
“Lenglet is a player owned by Barca. We are going to talk to them and I imagine that there will be an agreement for him to continue with us,” explained the ‘Colchonero’ president in the program ‘Tot es mou’ on ‘TV3’. He seems very convinced, although the operation will have its difficulties.
The situation of the French in Barcelona was very complex. He was dragging an important contract that ended in 2026, and so that Atletico could incorporate him he had to do his part, renew until 2027 and split the amounts of his salary. Lenglet wanted to play at the Metropolitano and so it was, but that was solved with a loan without option to buy.
Now, Lenglet will have to return to the Joan Gamper training complex with two more seasons with Barca ahead and will have to wait for an agreement. As explained by ‘Sport’, the outlook of the ‘Cules’ and ‘Rojiblancos’ on this potential agreement is quite distant.
On the one hand, the interest of Atletico Madrid is that Lenglet leaves as a free agent assuming those two years of salary. On the other hand, what Barcelona wants is a transfer fee of around ten million euros, since the player has regained cache with his performance this season.
The words of Enrique Cerezo suggest that the operation, despite the differences, is not at a standstill. In the end, the ‘Cules’ do not count on Lenglet and the player’s desire is to remain at Atletico, where this course has played 33 games at a formidable level in which he has also scored two goals and provided two assists.
