Breaking: Air Peace suspends flights to Enugu airport, gives reason

Leading Nigerian carrier, Air Peace, has announced the immediate suspension of all flights to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, citing serious safety concerns over the state of the airport’s runway.
In a statement issued on Friday by the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Air Peace said the decision followed ongoing issues with the runway, which have continued to disrupt scheduled operations.
“We regret to inform you that all flights scheduled to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu are temporarily suspended due to safety concerns,” the statement read.
According to the airline, the deteriorating runway conditions have significantly impacted flight schedules and prompted the difficult—but necessary—decision to halt further operations into Enugu until the issues are resolved.
“The situation of the Enugu runway has been causing major disruptions to Air Peace flights, hence the decision to temporarily suspend further flights into this airport until further notice,” the airline added.
Air Peace stressed that passenger safety remains its top priority, noting that the temporary suspension would allow the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) time to carry out much-needed repairs.
“At Air Peace, we prioritise safety over convenience. We believe that if flights are not operated into this aerodrome for the next few days, it will allow FAAN the opportunity to perform the necessary repairs on the runway.”
As an alternative, all flights previously scheduled to and from Enugu will now operate through Asaba Airport, the statement confirmed.
The airline concluded by appealing for customers’ patience and understanding during this period, assuring that the decision was taken purely in the interest of public safety.
“Please be informed that all flights scheduled into and out of Enugu will now be operated into and out of Asaba airport. We regret any inconvenience this change might have caused.”
