Breaking: El-Rufai wades into Ribadu/Naja’atu controversy, taunts NSA over ‘morally flexible’ stance

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy between Najaatu Mohammed and National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, affirming that Ribadu did, in fact, make the corruption allegations in 2006.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, El-Rufai dismissed Ribadu’s denial, insisting that the former EFCC boss had accused multiple government officials of corruption during a Special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in 2006. He maintained that official records from both the Senate and FEC would prove Najaatu Mohammed’s claims right.
“The record of proceedings in the Senate will confirm that Nuhu made those statements sometime in 2006,” El-Rufai wrote, referencing a February 2007 Daily Trust report that documented similar allegations.
He further stated that the Federal Executive Council’s conclusions from 2006, which can be subpoenaed from the Cabinet Secretariat, contain evidence of the accusations. According to him, Ribadu’s EFCC made a presentation at that meeting, implicating several sitting officials.
El-Rufai’s post appears to be a direct response to Ribadu, who recently denied making any such allegations. The former governor ended his statement by emphasizing the importance of speaking out against revisionist narratives, stating that “at some point in our national life, silence is no longer golden.”
