Breaking: Heavy gunfire erupts in Wike’s hometown, amid Rivers LG elections

There is ongoing chaos in Rumuepirikom, the hometown of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, as heavy gunfire has been reported in the area during the Rivers State local government elections.
Sources from the community revealed that earlier in the day, unidentified individuals had entered the area, warning residents to stay indoors and avoid participating in the election.
Tensions escalated when electoral officers were about to arrive at a ward in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Armed men, believed to be bandits, stormed the area, unleashing a volley of gunfire, effectively taking the community hostage. The heavy presence of gunmen instilled fear in residents, forcing them to stay away from polling units and preventing the election from proceeding.
Reports indicate that one individual was injured by a bullet during the attack and has since been rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
As the situation unfolds, residents of Rumuepirikom and surrounding areas remain on edge, with many unsure of the next developments amid the heavy gunfire. Local authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident, and it is unclear what measures are being taken to restore order and ensure the safety of citizens.
