During a press briefing held at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, the Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results. He highlighted the impressive performance of candidates and the significance of the results in shaping students’ academic futures, as securing five credits—particularly in English and Mathematics—is a prerequisite for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Out of the 1,376,423 candidates who registered for the examination, 1,367,736 sat for it. This number was broken down into 702,112 males and 665,624 females, showcasing balanced participation from both genders. The number of candidates who passed with five credits or more, including English and Mathematics, totaled 828,284, representing 60.55% of those who took the exam. Additionally, 83.9% of candidates, or 1,147,597, obtained five credits and above, regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics.
Prof. Wushishi also addressed the issue of examination malpractice, noting a significant decrease in cases this year. “In 2024, 8,437 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice, compared to 12,030 in 2023—a 30.1% reduction,” he reported. Despite this improvement, 40 schools across 17 states were implicated in mass cheating, with one school in Ekiti State recommended for de-recognition for cheating in multiple core subjects.
In response to the lapses in supervision during the exams, 21 supervisors from 12 states were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding malpractice, absenteeism, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence.
As part of the announcement, Professor Wushishi encouraged all candidates who sat for the exam to visit the official NECO website to check their results using their examination registration number.
“At this juncture, I wish to formally declare that the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results are now released to the public. Candidates can access their results at www.neco.gov.ng Wushishi stated.
The release of these results marks a significant moment for students nationwide, as they move forward in their educational journeys, with many preparing for admissions into higher institutions.
