Breaking: Police withdraw personnel from Rivers LG election

Ahead of October 5th Rivers State local government election, the State Police Command has announced its withdrawal.
This decision follows a Federal High Court judgment, which barred the police and other security agencies from participating in the polls.
The court’s ruling, delivered on September 30, 2024, is the latest development in a series of legal battles surrounding the election. Earlier, on July 19, 2024, the same court issued a restraining order, prohibiting the police from providing security during the election.
Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, explained that the decision to withdraw from the election is a sequel to directives from the Force Legal Department.
However, the force said it will not fold it hands to allow security breaches within the state.
“We will not fold our arms and allow security breaches,” she assured.
