Breaking: Tension erupts in North-East APC over Tinubu endorsement without Shettima

A major political rift has shaken the North-East chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a controversial endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term on Sunday.

An endorsement that notably excluded Vice President Kashim Shettima, a key political figure from the region.

The uproar began at an APC stakeholders’ meeting held  in Gombe, where National Vice Chairman (North-East), Mustapha Salihu, declared President Tinubu as the sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election. However, his failure to acknowledge Vice President Shettima in the declaration triggered immediate backlash from delegates, some of whom reportedly threatened violence.

Security personnel swiftly intervened, escorting Salihu out of the venue to prevent escalation.

Deputy National Chairman Bukar Dalori attempted to salvage the situation by later including Shettima in his own endorsement speech, but tensions remained high.

According to Daily Trust, the crisis deepened when APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje echoed support for Tinubu’s second term bid—once again without mentioning Shettima. His remarks further inflamed the gathering, leading to more disruptions and ultimately an abrupt end to the meeting.
