Burial date announced for former Oyo Governor, Victor Olunloyo

The final burial rites for the late former Governor of old Oyo State, Chief Dr. Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo, will hold from Tuesday, June 24 to Thursday, June 26, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Chief Olunloyo, a revered intellectual, scholar, and statesman, passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 89. He was widely celebrated for his remarkable contributions to public administration, mathematics, and governance in Nigeria.

According to the funeral programme released by the Olunloyo family, tributes will begin with a Classical Music Night of Tributes on Tuesday, June 24, at Felicia Hall, Jogor Centre, Ibadan.

On Wednesday, June 25, a Wake will be held at the same venue to honour his legacy and life of service.

The final day of ceremonies, Thursday, June 26, will begin with a State Commendation Service at 8:00 AM at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, followed by a Cathedral Liturgy at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral Church of St. David’s, Kudeti.

After the service, Chief Olunloyo will be laid to rest in a private family interment. The day’s events will conclude with a Reception at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre by 2:00 PM.

All events will be livestreamed via YouTube (@VOSOforever) and Zoom to accommodate friends, family, and admirers around the world.

Chief Victor Olunloyo’s legacy as a brilliant mind and a dedicated public servant continues to be celebrated across Nigeria and beyond.
