CAF: Give us victory, my govt won’t abandon you, Okpebholo assures Edo Queens

Ahead of the last group match in the ongoing 2024 CAF Women Champions League in Casablanca, Morocco, between
Mamelodi Sundown of South Africa and Edo Queens, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpevbolo has hailed the team for their achievements so far and has charged them to beat the South Africans to enable them lead Group B into the semifinals.
The Governor assured them of his continuous support, as they represent the state and Nigeria in Morocco.
Governor Okpebholo said that his new administration is in solidarity with the girls who are representing the State and nation at the Confederation of Africa Football Women Champions League in far away Morocco.
“I think the girls might be worried about the change of leadership in the Edo State, but I want them to know that we are with them. I have been briefed, and I know our team is in Morocco doing well. So, we will not abandon them. We are aware of the exploits, and I urge them to continue to dominate.
“My message to Edo Queens is that they have nothing to worry about. We are solidly behind them. We want our girls to beat Sundown Saturday and win for me.
“Go ahead to also win the cup and bring it to your fatherland. Sports will surely be given a top priority it deserves in my Government,” the statement read.
Edo Queens will engage in a fierce battle with the defending champions Mamelody Sundown Girls in the last group game of the CAF Women Champions League on Saturday, November 16 2024 in Casablanca, Morocco. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 6 pm on Saturday.
