CAN reacts to viral N30m government donation rumors

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kebbi State Chapter, has debunked viral claims that it rejected a ₦30 million donation from the state government, clarifying that the funds were neither personal gifts nor rejected by the Christian community.
In a statement signed by the state CAN chairman, Venerable Ayyuba Kanta, the association described the reports as misleading, stating that the money was designated as official support for the recently held Kebbi State Healing and Deliverance Crusade in Birnin Kebbi.
“We wish to make it clear to the general public and the state government that the ₦30 million gift was in support of the Kebbi State Healing and Deliverance Crusade,” the statement read.
The two-day event, jointly organized by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the Kebbi State CAN, featured renowned preacher Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche as the guest minister.
CAN explained that Pastor Enenche, in line with his personal policy of not accepting financial gifts during his ministry or humanitarian missions, advised that the funds be utilized at the discretion of the state CAN leadership.
“As a result of Dr. Enenche’s directive, the funds have been redirected towards the construction of a perimeter fence at the Christian cemetery recently approved by Governor Nasir Idris,” the association revealed.
In addition to the financial support, CAN expressed gratitude to the governor for providing access to key state facilities, including the state stadium for the crusade, and the Presidential Lodge banquet hall for ministers’ meetings. The government also facilitated the distribution of palliatives to students and women during the programme.
Describing Governor Nasir Idris as “a jolly friend of all Christians and CAN leadership in the state,” Venerable Kanta reaffirmed the strong, cordial relationship between the Christian community and the Kebbi State Government.
The association urged the public to disregard false narratives and appreciate the collaborative efforts that made the crusade a success.
