Davido breaks silence over ongoing criticism on economy remarks


Afrobeats superstar Davido has broken his silence amidst the wave of criticism over his recent comments about Nigeria’s struggling economy. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, the singer wrote a simple yet profound message: “God bless Nigeria .”

The statement comes days after his remarks on a U.S. radio platform advising African Americans against relocating to Nigeria due to the country’s current economic challenges sparked mixed reactions. While many Nigerians praised him for his honesty, some prominent figures, including APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe and TVC presenter Akashat Ny’mat, criticized him for allegedly tarnishing Nigeria’s image on a global stage.
Supporters have, however, rallied behind Davido, hailing him as a voice of truth amidst tough times. Many have also accused his critics of ignoring the reality of the hardship everyday Nigerians face.
