Dessers commits to Rangers, rules out transfer

Cyriel Dessers, the Rangers striker, has quashed rumors of a potential exit, stating his happiness at Ibrox Stadium and his intention to remain with the club amidst transfer interest.
Despite interest from PAOK and Cagliari, Cyriel Dessers has stated his intention to stay with Glasgow Rangers, dispelling rumors of a move away from Scotland in an interview with Ziggo Sport Voetbal.
“I am very happy here, so I would like to stay,” the 29-year-old said.
“There is some interest, but my intention is to stay and then we will see what happens.”
Despite heavy criticism from the club fans over his lack of finishing, Dessers in his first campaign at Ibrox netted 22 goals and provided eight assists.
It took the striker time to win over the highly vociferous Rangers fans following his summer move from Cremonese in Italy after managing to score just three goals in his first 20 appearances, but his clinical double against Hearts in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup had fans singing praises of the Nigerian.
His late resurgence was not enough as the Gers finished second in the Scottish Premier League behind arch-rivals, Celtic, while also losing the Scottish Cup final to the same opponents courtesy of a late Adam Idah’s strike.
After signing a four-year contract with Rangers last summer, Cyriel Dessers is eager to make a strong start to the new season, which kicks off on August 3 with an away match against Hearts.
Prior to the season opener, Dessers must win over manager Philipp Clement’s approval during the pre-season training, starting with the friendly match against Manchester United on Saturday.
