In a video that has gone viral, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has made a bold prediction about President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027, stating that it is “impossible” for him to secure another term.

The footage, captured during a public address, shows El-Rufai’s firm stance, arguing that the current political climate and public sentiment make Tinubu’s re-election unattainable.

El-Rufai’s prediction is unequivocal. “Anybody that thinks it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country, not Nigeria,” he states, his voice steady and authoritative. He elaborates, “It’s impossible for Bola Tinubu to be elected,” a statement that has drawn sharp reactions from both supporters and critics. The video captures his reasoning, as he argues, “I don’t see a pathway for him no matter how disorganized the opposition is,” suggesting a lack of viable strategy for Tinubu’s campaign.

The former governor’s critique extends to the recent wave of political defections, which he dismisses as insignificant to the broader electorate. “In fact, I’m very happy that there are gale of defections,” he notes, arguing that these moves are driven by self-interest rather than public will. “Because Nigerians are not defecting,” he clarifies, pointing to “greedy and hungry politicians” and those seeking “money, contract, appointment, office” as the real motivators. El-Rufai’s analysis suggests a disconnect between political maneuvering and the sentiments of ordinary Nigerians.

He further argues that the defections are influenced by fear of accountability, particularly from anti-corruption agencies. “The other class of those defected are the ones who know that EFCC or ICPC can intimidate them,” he states, implying that some politicians are defecting to avoid prosecution.

El-Rufai’s prediction also touches on the potential role of a coalition, possibly the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the 2027 elections. “I think SDP, the coalition of political parties or groups we work with is targeting,” he notes, hinting at an alternative political force. He envisions a contest not between traditional political figures but between institutions and the people. “We believe that 2027 elections will be between APC and Nigerians,” he states, a provocative claim that has sparked debate about the future of governance.
