England-born eyes Nigeria call-up

England-born player of Nigerian descent, Ibrahim Olateju, has showed interest in representing Nigeria at junior and senior levels.
The 18-year-old Cheltenham Town Academy striker, on loan at Malvern Town, has been on the radar of clubs in the English Premier League and the Championship after making a bright start to life at the Southern League Division One South club in October.
While the deals are expected to materialise during the January transfer window, Olateju also hopes to achieve a big international feat with Nigeria in 2025.
The striker says he’s willing to fight for a place in the Nigeria men’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, who have just qualified for the 2025 U-20 AFCON, which will also serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Olateju made a big impression in his first two games for Malvern Town and has an impressive goal-scoring record.
He opened his account with a late equaliser against Willand Rovers on October 12 and followed it up with a brace in a thrilling 5-4 home win over Bristol Manor Farm three days later.
“I am really pleased to be able to hit the ground running straight away,” Olateju said via the league’s website.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge that stands before me. I have played in this division before, so I know what a good level it is, and I want to add more goals to my tally. “
