FCT Police investigate viral video of woman found tied, unconscious in Gwarinpa hotel

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a full investigation into the disturbing death of a young woman found unconscious with her hands tied behind her in a hotel room in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja.
A viral video showing the woman in a lifeless state has since triggered widespread concern and calls for justice on social media. (Viewer discretion is strongly advised.)
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the deceased has been identified as Aladi Offikwu Johnson, popularly known as Tessy, a native of Benue State.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim… checked into a hotel located at 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on 16th June, 2025, in the company of an unidentified male who was later observed to have exited the premises without her,” the statement reads.
The victim was discovered by hotel staff during a routine service round and was found unconscious with her hands bound. She was immediately reported to the Police and later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, described it as “tragic and unacceptable,” and has ordered “a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.”
The Command also issued a public safety advisory to women and hotel operators.
“The Commissioner advises young ladies to exercise caution in their interactions, especially with unfamiliar individuals, and to always share their whereabouts with trusted friends or family members,” Adeh stated.
She further urged hospitality businesses to strengthen their internal security measures.
“Hotel operators are advised to enforce mandatory identity verification for guests and ensure the installation of functional surveillance systems to aid both deterrence and investigation,” she added.
The police also offered condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that no effort would be spared in bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice.
“The Command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice,” the statement concluded.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police have pledged to provide further updates in due course.
