Gombe NGOs call for social justice, civic responsibility ahead of planned protest

The Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (ANGO) in Gombe State have called for social justice and civic responsibility in the face of planned national protests against bad governance.

ANGO Secretary, Bachama Yusuf, flanked by Chairman Idris Maigari Lawanti and Deputy Chairman Gloria Usman, emphasised the need for robust dialogue between the government and citizens to address widespread hunger, hardship, and insecurity.

While acknowledging steps taken by the Federal Government, ANGO stressed that Nigerians are still waiting for tangible actions to alleviate their suffering.

In Gombe State, the association commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for engaging with citizens and suspending official duties to participate in consultation sessions.

ANGO presented key demands to the government, including; immediate action to address hunger, implementation of the new national minimum wage, review of fuel subsidy policy and electricity tariffs, sustained civil service reforms and addressing monopoly, hoarding of essential items.

The association expressed commitment to peaceful coexistence and civic responsibility, drawing lessons from past experiences.

They encouraged citizens to prioritise development and maintain peace, urging the Federal Government to release palliatives to the state and the State Government to ensure immediate and long-term results.
